Hello, My Creative Friend!
Thank you for your interest in The Atlanta School of floral design. If you are here, we already have so much in common! I’m Don M Chestnut, the sole owner of the school.
Here at ASFD, my goal is to help you expand your Creative World and explore the possibilities of awakening and sharpening your Unique Individual Style. Everything that can be done today by someone with the right skills and knowledge of the floral world is astounding. It is a great joy of mine to be a part of your journey into the unknown.
A little about me: I was born in the Lowcountry of South Carolina. My innate Southernness (if that’s a word) is woven into my love and expression of the floral styles of cultures from around the globe. I’ve spent more than 38 years and over 70,000 hours as an industry professional immersed in the creativity that is Floral ART. I started as a delivery driver at my cousin’s very traditional florist. Having spent my entire childhood creating art from nature with my Grandmother (Grace R. Lawson), Mom (Sherry Ann) and Cousin Libby, I quickly saw the endless possibilities of such a creative field.
I have composed floral creations and holiday decor for many high profile clients, weddings and events, as well as serving as the head designer for the company that produces the floral decor for The Masters golf tournament for 10 years. Over my career, I have worked with fine retail and wholesale establishments including Carithers Florist in Atlanta, and Rosewood Florist in SC. I have served as head a designer and manager, display designer, web developer, worked in marketing strategies and so much more.
I am the co-owner of Floratura Events along with Nicole Kupris. As owner of The Atlanta School of Floral Design, My passion now lies in sharing my knowledge of technique and style, along with the philosophy of the art and business of floral design.
I hope you decide to become a part of my Creative Family!
Creatively Yours (Always),
Don
